Arizona basketball’s Gordon named to Oscar Robertson Trophy Watch List

Arizona basketball freshman Aaron Gordon was one of just two Pac-12 Conference players named when the United States Basketball Writers Association revealed the 2013-14 Oscar Robertson Trophy Preseason Watch List Tuesday morning.

Every April, the Robertson Trophy is awarded by the USBWA to the most outstanding college basketball player. It has not been claimed by a current Pac-12 team since 2005 when Andrew Bogut won it while playing for Utah, despite the fact that Utah wasn’t a Pac-12 member at the time.

Gordon represented one of 15 top college basketball players named to the watch list and is one of only four freshmen on it.

On Monday, Gordon also showed up as the only Pac-12 selection and one of the 10 freshmen on the USBWA’s 2014 Integris Wayman Tisdale Freshman of the Year Award Preseason Watch List.

The Tisdale Freshman of the Year Award is presented to the national freshman of the year every April, and all NCAA Division I freshmen are eligible to win.

The San Jose, Calif., native came to Arizona as the No. 4 ranked player in his class according to and accomplished quite a bit before stepping on the court as a Wildcat. In high school, he became the fourth two-time California Mr. Basketball selection since 1979 and was named the MVP of the 2012 Under Armour Elite 24 Game and McDonalds All-American Game.

In the All-American game, Gordon dominated, scoring 24 points while compiling eight rebounds and two assists in 24 minutes of action against the best high school competition in the country.
