Arizona alum and PGA professional Jim Furyk will attempt to reclaim the Ryder Cup this weekend in Chicago.
This will be Furyk’s eighth consecutive Ryder Cup appearance, making him among the most experienced players on the 12-man U.S. roster.
With 27 cup matches under his belt, Furyk trails only Phil Mickelson (34) and Tiger Woods (29) in Ryder Cup match experience. He has an 8-15-4 overall record in Ryder Cup competition, including a 4-2-1 record in singles play, and has collected 10 Ryder Cup points in his career.
Furyk has been a member of the PGA Tour since 1993. In that span, he has won 16 PGA Tour events, including the 2003 U.S. Open, and claimed seven top-10 finishes and more than $3.4 million in earnings in 2012.
Furyk was a part of the UA’s 1992 national championship team, and was inducted into the University of Arizona Sports Hall of Fame in 1997.
“Jim Furyk is an outstanding representative of the University of Arizona and our golf program,” UA head coach Jim Anderson said in a press release.
The 39th Ryder Cup matches will take place Sept. 28-30 at Medinah Country Club in Medinah, Ill. The U.S. leads the all-time Ryder Cup standings, 25-11-2.
