BRIEF: Woman trapped in burning attic dies of injuries

Vancouver woman who called telling rescue crews that she was trapped in the attic of a burning house has died of her injuries.

Debra K. Vanderley, 48, succumbed to her injuries, said Vancouver Fire Department Capt. Chris Moen.

Fire crews had rushed to a split-level house at 4505 E. 15th St. after the woman called for help from the attic at about 11:14 a.m., Moen said.

Fire crews arrived on scene to find fire burning in the attic.

The woman was found in the attic and taken out through a hole firefighters had cut in the roof. She was treated by paramedics on the scene before being taken by ambulance to a hospital.

The house is owned by Fred Duvall, according to county property records. He was not in the house at the time of the fire.

The fire was contained to the attic, but efforts to fight the blaze were hampered by a large volume of items being stored in the space.

The fire was declared under control at 11:57 a.m.
