The UA women’s golf team is the heavy favorite as they head to Colorado for the Golfweek’s Conference Challenge.
The tournament will host 18 universities from around the country, with the No. 4 Wildcats coming in the highest ranked.
The tournament started yesterday and lasts until tomorrow at the Red Sky Golf Club in Wolcott, Colo.
Although the UA is the highest ranked team in the tournament, it will not be an easy tournament by any means — There are five other top-25 schools in the field, the highest being No. 9 Pepperdine.
“”Right now we are performing how we thought we would,”” said head coach Laura Ianello. “”Our main goal is still competing at nationals, and with this team, we should be able to.””
The team is trying to continue its dominance from the Topy Cup tournament in Tanagura, Japan. In Japan the team swept all honors, winning as a team and individuals. Isabelle Boineau brought home first place individually.
“”I just want to continue winning,”” Boineau said. “”I like winning and hopefully I win a lot more times this year.””
Ianello has high hopes for the team in only her first year as head coach of the women’s program. Everybody on the roster is following right behind their coach with the same high expectations.
“”It was great to get a win in the first tournament of the year,”” Ianello said. “”I hope we keep that offensive momentum rolling as we go to Colorado.””
