Following six consecutive wins, the Arizona volleyball team ended the weekend with a 0-3 loss against Stanford. The Wildcats cleared a .122 hitting percentage while the opposing team hit at .380 percent. The three-set match resulted in scores of 15-25, 18-25, and 16-25.
Set 1 – (15-25)
The pace of the first set picked up with a back-to-back kill and ace effortlessly done by Sofia Maldonado Diaz. Stanford held up their end with kills that would set the Wildcats back. Jaelyn Hodge provided two kills both assisted by Emery Herman. Maldonado Diaz scored another kill along with a block from both Herman and Merle Weidt. Stanford finished the first set with an ace.
Set 2 – (18-25)
Hodge set the tone of the set with a kill assisted by Herman, followed by a block with Zyonna Fellows. Herman was on fire assisting a total of seven kills including a kill of her own. Arizona’s offense finished with two kills each from Stubbe, Maldonado Diaz and Weidt. Stanford’s defense was not letting down as they finished the second set with three kills.
Set 3 – (16-25)
In an attempt to level out the playing field, Herman kicked off the final set with an ace and nine assists. Working together, Stubbe scored five kills all assisted by Herman. The Wildcats fell short to Stanford as they finished the final set with an ace and two kills.
Arizona volleyball is now 11-4 as they head home to host the University of Washington in McKale Center on Friday, Oct. 8, 2021, at 6 p.m. MST.
