The Arizona women’s basketball team dominated today against Northern Arizona University, 82-55. The Wildcats were led by Aaronette Vonleh who scored 17 points while shooting 70% (7-10) from the field.
Arizona shot the ball 53% (34-64) from the field and 35% (6-17) from beyond the arc. The Wildcats shot better from the free-throw line as they finished 80% (8-10) from that spot.
This game wasn’t close from the beginning. The Wildcats led the game from the tip-off and jumped to a 21 point lead in the first quarter.
The bench was a big part of the win. Three players were in double figures which included: Vonleh who scored 17 points, Madison Conner who scored 12 points and Koi Love who scored 10 points. The bench scored a combined 56 points out of the 82 points in the game.
Arizona’s defense forced the Lumberjacks into 22 turnovers and that led to 28 points off turnovers.
Arizona on the offensive end dominated the paint, scoring 52 points in the paint.
On the glass, Arizona outrebounded NAU 36-29 and on the offensive glass, Arizona grabbed 13 offensive rebounds. The 13 offensive rebounds led to 17-second chance points.
Arizona did not need to play their starters much today as Sam Thomas played the most at only 15 minutes in the game.
Due to COVID-19 issues within the Arizona WBB program, today’s game against Texas has been canceled.
The Wildcats’ next game is on Dec. 31, versus USC on the road.
