Arizona Rugby head coach and UA icon died Monday, at age 58.

Dave Sitton, who was the long time UA men’s rugby head coach as well as Arizona’s football and basketball broadcaster died at Tucson Medical Center early Monday morning.

Sitton was originally from Southern California and graduated from the UA in 1978. He became the head rugby coach at the age of 22.

Sitton broadcast Arizona football and basketball from 1990 to 2012 and also was a rugby broadcaster for ESPN, ESPNU, Fox Sports Net, Sky Television and NBC.

In 2005 Sitton was diagnosed and successfully treated for lymphoma. He also did charity work, as he served on the board for of the Pima County Sports and Tourism Authority.

In 2006, Sitton was named the Tucson Chamber of Commerce Man of the Year and won the American Ad Federation Silver Award for Lifetime Achievement, Father’s Day Council Father of the Year and the Willie Kane Humanitarian Award.

Not only was he the rugby coach and a sports broadcaster, but he was also a Republican candidate for Congress to replace Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, although he only received 17 percent of the primary vote. Sitton originally came to the UA to play baseball but injuries caused to switch to rugby.

Sitton, whose record at UA was 399-211-12, was inducted into the Pima County Sports Hall of Fame as a coach and broadcaster.

He is survived by his two adult daughters Blakeney and Olivia.
