Jews, war lecture
Derek Penslar will be the first speaker in this six-part series. Penslar is the Samuel Zacks Professor of Jewish history and the director of the University of Toronto’s Jewish Studies Program. His current projects include a book on Jewish attitudes toward war and the military in modern history and a documentary history of Zionism. This will take the Tucson Jewish Community Center, 3800 E. River Rd. at 7 p.m.

This documentary ‘Freedom from Abuse of Power’ includes firsthand accounts by people arbitrarily detained at Guantanamo Bay and tortured in secret overseas prisons through the Extraordinary Rendition program. This will be screened at room 202 in the Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering building at 7 p.m.
‘Sassy Talk’ with UA Jazz
The UA School of Music presents “”Sassy Talk,”” the UA Studio Jazz Ensemble’s first concert of the 2008-2009 season. The ensemble has an extensive and varied repertoire representing styles and subtle characteristics unique to specific bands’ libraries and musical icons that have brought us swingin’ into the 21st century. They will be playing at 7:30 p.m. at UA School of Music in Crowder Hall.
