Rain, thunder and lightning weren’t the only gloom hanging over the Arizona men’s golf team yesterday in Orlando, Fla.
After the first round of play at the Isleworth-UCF Collegiate Invitational, the Wildcats sit in 17th place out of 18 teams.
Arizona shot 13-over 301 in the round.
“”We didn’t play well,”” said senior Creighton Honeck. “”We made too many mistakes and didn’t get enough birdies.””
The best first-round performance for Arizona came from freshman Tarquin MacManus, who started the tournament as high as 11th place but fell to 17th by the end of the round. MacMannus shot 1-under 71 on the day.
“”We need a couple solid rounds,”” Honeck said. “”If we get a couple people under par, we can really move up.””
