The Arizona Wildcats softball team fought for redemption Saturday night, defeating the Baylor Bears 9-7.
Arizona took a 2-0 lead early off a two run homer by catcher Stacie Chambers, but the Wildcats would have to play catch up later in the game.
Wildcat second baseman Kristen Arriola was the late game hero for Arizona. She stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning. With two strikes, Arriola rocketed a ball to the gap in left center and cleared the bases.
The scores were part of a five-run comeback sixth inning for the Wildcats, helped along by three Baylor errors.
Sophomore pitcher Kenzie Fowler was once against chased early from the game, but like Friday night’s game, freshman pitcher Shelby Babcock proved effective in relief. Fowler gave up seven runs on eight hits. Babcock allowed only two hits in 4.2 innings of work.
Of the 22 hits in the game, 12 belonged to Arizona.
The rubber match of the series will be tomorrow at 11 a.m.
