The No. 11 Arizona men’s club hockey team improved to 17-11 this weekend, splitting its series with No. 15 Oklahoma (17-11-2).
Much like their recent trip to Utah to face No. 7 Weber State, the Icecats lost Friday night 7-3 after taking a red-eye flight out of Tucson and playing on a foreign rink.
After a phenomenal weekend against No. 9 ASU last week, sophomore goalie Luke Edwall struggled Friday, allowing all seven Sooner goals and paving the way for freshman Nick Boddy to take his place between the pipes Saturday.
Behind Boddy, and thanks to a game-high three goals from freshman forward Cody Morin, the Icecats bounced back to win Saturday 5-3, again improving their chances of a top-10 seed when Friday’s final American College Hockey Association rankings come out.
The final rankings determine the seeds for the ACHA National Tournament March 2-5.
The Icecats host Texas Tech this weekend in their return from a three-week road trip.
