Dean: Party’s over

Delta Tau Delta will not be allowed to have any social events for the remainder of the semester.

The dean of students placed the fraternity on probation after finding out that members hosted an unregistered party during the summer, where underage students drank alcohol, according to Veda Kowalski, senior associate dean of students. The probation was announced on Sept. 16.

“”They can’t have any events with the exception of business related meetings, leadership retreats and brotherhood events, but not social types of events through January — then we’ll review if the activities suspension should continue,”” Kowalski said.

Any further violations of the Student Code of Conduct would result in stricter punishment.

The chapter is under a membership review, Kowalski said.

“”We’re in trouble with nationals and somewhat with the school, but what happened is the school talked with nationals, and we’re discussing it with our nationals right now,”” said Jared Horn, a member of Delta Tau Delta, on Sunday.

Fraternity President Danny Nudelman was under the impression that the sanctions against the chapter were not finalized.

“”There are a few activities that we aren’t allowed to partake in, but our nationals was speaking with the dean of students office — we’ve been negotiating our terms and sanctions,”” he said.

The dean of students confirmed they are on probation.

“”We’ve had our advisors from NAU and ASU come down basically here to help me out and help the executive board out, help point us in the right direction as a representative of Delta Tau Delta as a national organization,”” Nudelman said. “”We hope we’ll still be as active as we were before on campus, but (the dean of students) still gives us something so we can learn from our mistakes.””
