Arizona softball wins first conference series against Oregon

Head coach Caitlin Lowe has a meeting at the mound with her infielders on Friday, April 15, at Rita Hillenbrand Memorial Stadium. The Wildcats would lose in five innings 11-3.

In the first game, Arizona won a high-scoring game against the University of Oregon Ducks 11-8. 

The Wilhit two home runs in the first inning that brought in four  runs. Skaggs hit a two-run home run for Arizona to get on the scoreboard. Oregon the win. Pacho had two RBI along with her home run, which was a two-RBI homer that secured the win at the end of the game for Arizona. 

Jasmine Perezchica had two hits and one RBI. Dimler had four RBI in the game with three coming from her home run. 

Oregon hit two home runs in the first inning that brought in 4 runs. Skaggs hit a 2-run home run for Arizona to get on the scoreboard. Oregon added another run in the third inning to go up 5-2, but Arizona tied it on Dimler’s home run and then scored 2 more runs to go up 7-5 after two RBI singles. Dimler also hit a sacrifice fly that extended the lead even further to 8-5.

Oregon responded with an RBI double and a two-RBI home run to take the lead again at 9-8, but Arizona responded with a Carlie Scupin RBI double, and Pacho hit her two-RBI home run for Arizona to take the lead for the final time at 11-8. Devyn Netz earned the win and Hanah Bowen earned her first save of the year when she came into the finish the game in the seventh inning.

In the second game, Oregon evened the series 11-3 over Arizona in five innings. Oregon hit two 2-run home runs in the first two innings, while Arizona answered with a solo home run from Sharlize Palacios in the first inning and a 2-run homer from Sophia Carroll in the second inning.

 Oregon rolled the rest of the way with the Ducks scoring 2 runs in the third and then hit three home runs in the fifth inning that culminated in 5 runs for the Ducks in the fifth inning. Oregon had 10 hits and 11 runs off three different pitchers for Arizona.

In the third game, Arizona cruised to a 12-4 win in five innings. Arizona had 12 runs on 12 hits. The Wildcats scored their final 8 runs over the last two innings, before that Arizona only had a 1-run lead. Palacios and Scupin opened the scoring with a 2-run homer and then a solo homer. 

Palacios had five RBI and was perfect on the day at 3-for-3. Arizona then scored again to make it 4-0. Oregon then scored with a run and then a 2-run homer to cut it to 4-3.

Arizona scored five runs in the fourth with Pacho hitting an RBI double as well as Blaise Biringer doing the same. Palacios also was walled with the bases loaded. Oregon would only score again off a solo home run in the fifth inning. Palacios brought in 2 more runs through singles before Skaggs ended the game with a sac fly.

Arizona will look to keep the momentum going against both University of Texas at El Paso in a double-header and also the University of Utah in a road series.
