The Arizona Wildcats made their way to Lubbock, Texas for the Red Raider Invitational on Jan. 24 and left having obtained some nice personal records.

For the women, freshman Morgan Rhett came out of the blocks pounding the ground to make a speedy 60m time of 7.92. Rhett also showcased her speed shortly after in the 200m, earning a time of 25.42, placing 22nd out of the 44 competing women. Making a mark for the women, Sarahvaughn King made it to the finals in the 400-meter dash and took seventh place for Arizona with a smoking time of 55.65. Obtaining another seventh-place finish in the finals was superstar freshman Grace Reinholz in the 600-yard run, getting a time 1:25.36. 

As for the men, junior sprinter Maj Williams got a solid personal record in his 600-yard run, getting a time of 1:11.21. Being an overall 400 meter running, Williams’ ability to adapt to longer distances is certainly going to help with his strength in the outdoor season. The personal record of 1:11.21 put Williams in sixth place for the finals.

Also to make the finals in the 600-yard run is Williams’ training rival and Arizona senior Zakee Washington. Washington came in with a 1:14.09 and is certainly hungry to get faster. For Arizona to have two sprinters in the finals for the 600-yard race showcases what their training has brought them, given that these men are used to competing in 200-meter and 400-meter races. Other outstanding men’s performances go to PJ Austin and Israel Oloyede.

This won’t be the last stop for the Arizona Wildcats in Lubbock, Texas. The Wildcats will return for the Texas Tech Invitational and Multi’s. With the athletes now used to this track and competition, it should be a meet of great racing and personal records for the Arizona Wildcats.
