Who: Choral music and studio art junior Caroline Nelson.

What: Nelson will be performing in a choir recital Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. It will take place in Holsclaw Hall.

Bio: Nelson graduated from Chapin High School. She is a resident assistant at Yavapai Residence Hall. Nelson is a junior from Charleston and Chapin, S.C.

Wildcat: Do you have any special talents?

Nelson: Overcommitment is my specialty. (I’m) pursuing degrees in both studio art and choral music education along with working at the Honors College, being an RA and being an officer in the National Residence Hall Honorary, I have to do a lot of juggling, but somehow I’ll still manage to graduate in only six years. Also, I can rip an essay to shreds checking your grammar.

W: What makes you unique as an artist?

N: I believe in creating beauty with my art, whether by rendering the beauty of the human figure through drawing, capturing the essence of a culture through photography, bringing interest into functional objects that are usually drab or performing a choral work with exquisite harmonic texture. I think a lot of artists today are focused on exposing the evil and immorality present in society, but I personally think the negative is brought to the forefront too much, to the point where people no longer see all the things that are good around them.

W: What is your favorite Broadway play?

N: Although I love the newer musicals like “”Wicked”” and “”Rent,”” I’d have to say my favorite Broadway show is “”The Music Man.”” It’s such a classic, the music is catchy, clever and high quality, and the whole thing is very witty.

W: Give me one line of your favorite song.

N: “”Go ahead, you can laugh all you want; I got my philosophy/It keeps my feet on the ground, and I trust it like the ground,”” from “”Philosophy”” by Ben Folds Five.

W: What do you think of Tucson?

N: It’s very different from home, and that’s one reason I find it so fascinating. The mountains and plants here are so beautiful and unique, and I love the smell after the rain. It could use a little more rain, though.

W: What is your favorite color?

    N: Coral.

W: What is your favorite food?

N: Macaroni and tomato juice soup, with grilled cheese for dipping.

W: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

N: Leading a high school choral department, living in the Carolinas, being close to family and exhibiting and selling my artwork in art and craft fairs.
