Arizona senior gymnast Karin Wurm was named the Pacific 10 Conference Gymnast of the Week for Feb. 12-18, commissioner Tom Hansen announced yesterday.
Wurm earned a career high in the all-around with a 39.425, and tied her career bests on the floor and uneven bars with a 9.900 and 9.925, respectively, as the Gymcats defeated ASU in a dual meet in Tempe for the first time since 1987.
This is the second time Wurm has won the award.
“”It’s definitely an honor,”” Wurm said. “”It is my senior year and it’s nice to get the honor again and hopefully I can get it a few more times this year.””
UA head coach Bill Ryden said he was pleased with Wurm’s performance, but added that the accolade was not unexpected.
“”It was well deserved,”” he said. “”She was a rock star, but that is normal Karin, that is who she is. She’s getting into that groove and is just exuding confidence right now.””
