The Arizona men’s basketball team makes its debut today in the annual Red/Blue scrimmage in McKale Center. Stay here for updates from tip-off (1 p.m.) to post-game interviews.

12:43 p.m. — The lower bowl in McKale looks a little spotty, but still a relatively good turnout for a scrimmage. Plenty of open seats in the upper deck.

* The Zona Zoo is nearly empty aside from the band. That’s what happens when you schedule a 1 p.m. tip off the day after Halloween. Healing a hangover becomes difficult standing next to a marching band.

* This is the time of year Arizona should schedule a game at Arizona Stadium. It’s 85 degrees outside with clear skies — would be a beautiful time.

12:53 p.m. — The intro song is the same song (“”Let it rock””) and mostly the same highlights from last year.

* Loudest applause of the pregame introductions: Nic Wise (no surprise) with Sean Miller as a close second.

12:57 p.m. — Sean Miller addressing the crowd:

“”The feeling I had as a visiting player, the feeling we had when we got off the bus was the feeling I’m so excited to give to the other team from this point on.””

1:01 p.m. — Nic Wise is back in warmups after spraining his ankle in practice last week. It was unclear whether he would be back for the scrimmage.

1:06 p.m. — Starting lineup:

Blue team:

Kyryl Natyazhko

Solomon Hill

Kyle Fogg

D.J. Shumpert

MoMo Jones

Red team:

Brendon Lavender

Derrick Williams

Kevin Parrom

Garland Judkins

Jamelle Horne

1:19 p.m. — Wise has spent the entire quarter on the bench. It’s 15-8 with 2:25 left in the first quarter.

1:24 p.m. — End of the first quarter, Blue team leads the red team 18-10.

Jones (blue team) has a game-high nine points, but more importantly, he’s been vocal on both ends of the court.

1:42 p.m. — At the half, the Blue team leads 33-24. Jones (Blue) has a game-high 12 points. Parrom leads the Red team with 8 points and 3 assists. Hill has a game-high 5 rebounds.

1:57 p.m. — A huge standing ovation for Lute Olson, who just arrived and and is sitting behind the Blue bench. Jones just walked over to shake his hand.

2:00 p.m. — Clean slate. The score reset. It’s 5-2 Red team.

2:01 p.m. — It’s only a few minutes into the third quarter, but already both sides look more polished than the first half. An alley-oop dunk from Shumpert to Williams put the Red team up 7-4.

* Scanning the crowd, the UA athletic department printed out a few double-sided signs that say both “”Go Red”” and “”Go Blue.”” Looks more like a political preference.

* Rough estimate: Looks like about 7,500 people in attendance.

2:15 p.m. — End of the “”third”” quarter, it’s 19-16 Red team after the score was reset at halftime.

2:31 p.m. — Getting a little sloppy. With under one minute to play, it’s some fast-paced rec-league-style basketball up and down the court. Red leads blue 39-30.

2:38 p.m. — Final Score: 69-68 combining both games.
