Collegiate Baseball announced their 2020 All-American teams from this past year’s shortened season that saw three Wildcats named to teams, including two Freshman All-Americans for the second consecutive season.

The group came out with their first, second and third team All-Americans earlier this week where catcher Austin Wells was named to the second team. This came after Collegiate Baseball named Wells as a second team All-American prior to the season. After taking home Pac-12 Freshman of the Year last season, Wells continued where he left off hitting .375 and slugging .589 with six doubles and 14 RBIs over 15 games played, and he was top-10 in the conference in each of those categories.

The Wildcats also saw two first-year players named to the Freshman All-American list this season with outfielder Mac Bingham and starting pitcher Chandler Murphy.

Bingham appeared in all 15 games, hitting .361 with six runs scored, two doubles, one home run and seven RBIs. His batting average was the third best on the team, while also collecting his first collegiate hit against Albany on February 15 and first career home run against Southern Illinois on February 21. He registered four multi-hit games and saw his speed make a huge difference in the outfield where he committed just one error on the season. Bingham was selected in the 40th round of the 2019 Major League Baseball Draft by the Chicago Cubs but instead chose to continue his development with the Wildcats in Tucson.

Murphy flashed his talent over four starts during his freshman season, posting a 2-0 record with a team best 2.70 ERA and 19 strikeouts. He held opposing hitters to a .203 batting average, the best mark on the team among qualified pitchers. Murphy opened up his collegiate career by tossing five innings of scoreless work against Albany and became the first Arizona true freshman to toss 10 plus innings of scoreless work in the StatCrew era (1998-present).

This year’s shortened MLB draft is right around the corner beginning on June 10. There are some early mock drafts that have Wells slated to go in the late first-round.
