Arizona men’s golf head coach Jim Anderson is in his first year and he is attempting to turn his team into a family, as he believes the Wildcats will perform better if they feel as if they are part of a solid unit. Luckily, the team he inherited has two brothers, senior Trent and sophomore Brenden Redfern.

The brothers were born and raised in Austin, Texas, along with their five siblings. Their father, Ken Redfern, attended the UA and played on the golf team from 1968-1972, so the sport runs in their family.

“Trent and Brenden are fantastic people first,” Anderson said. “They are very committed and I think because of their father they have a great sense of pride in Wildcat golf.”

With a strong golf legacy, the Redfern brothers pretty much grew up on the golf course. After a while most of Trent and Brenden’s four brothers and one sister moved on to other sports, but Trent and Brenden stuck with golf. Both began winning tournaments when they were around the age of eight.

While Trent and Brenden still go to their father for tips, there is someone they each trust more when it comes to critiquing their game.

“Trent is the first person I will go to now if I’m looking for advice,” Brenden said. “It just makes sense, because no one has seen me play as much as him or knows my game as well as him.

“I have been watching my brother play ever since I was five. Watching and competing with him I think has pushed me to be a better golfer but also has built a passion for the game.”

Off the golf course, the brothers live together in a house with two other teammates. Anderson admires their commitment to each other and he called the brother’s relationship a “blessing.”

Trent and Brenden intend to pursue a professional golf career, but currently enjoy living in Tucson and being Wildcats. Their decision to come to Arizona had a lot to do with their father but also one another.

“My brother is awesome,” Trent said. “I’m really happy we get along so well and that we’ve been able to play together for all these years. For both of us to be Wildcats just seems right.”
