The UA offers many health care options to its faculty and students. Some are simply included with enrollment at the university, while others come at an extra cost. Here’s a breakdown of what types of health care the UA has to offer.
Health and Recreation Fee
The Health and Recreation Fees, a mandatory $300-a-year fee collected with tuition, are partially covered by Campus Health Service. This fee makes any UA student or faculty member eligible for care at Campus Health, the UA’s on-campus health clinic.
According to this document, the Health and Recreation Fee was instated to give campus health stable funding and make it a university auxiliary. The fee jointly funds Campus Health and Campus Recreation, but the larger chunk of the funding goes to Campus Health.
According to Campus Recreation, 17 percent of the funds are initially pulled out for financial aid and 44 percent is then allocated for Campus Health while the remaining 39 percent is given to Campus Recreation.
While the mandatory Health and Recreation Fee automatically grants access to health care at Campus Health, it doesn’t make the services free. The fee instead subsidizes costs of care, making the fees comparable to the insurance deductibles that you would find at other community healthcare providers.

CampusCare
According to Campus Health, CampusCare is the UA’s healthcare “bridge” for students who are already covered by a commercial health insurance policy.
Since a large chunk of the universities’ population is under the age of 26 and still covered by their parent’s insurance policy, this is a plan for those whose commercial policy may have a high deductible, limited benefits or even no coverage at Campus Health.

Student Health Insurance
For those without a commercial health insurance plan, the university also offers its own health insurance policy that meets standards set by the Affordable Care Act.
The student health insurance policy is the only of the three health care options provided by the UA to its students that extends beyond the university run Campus Health.
Those who are eligible must be enrolled in at least seven units with the university. Graduate students are an exception to this requirement — they need to be taking at least three units or one thesis or dissertation unit.
