Fashion Week trends straight from the runway

The snow and freezing temperatures in New York City didn’t stop the fiercest designers and models in the fashion industry from stomping down the runways last week. Though Fashion Week has come to a close, the hottest trends are just beginning.

What pieces straight from the runway should end up in your closet this spring? Considering that the average college student’s budget doesn’t include couture Carolina Herrera, the next best thing is to follow up with the latest trends.

Easter pastels were spotted all over the runways. Despite the frigid temperatures outside, things were really warming up inside at the shows. Designers like Rebecca Taylor and Jason Wu were pastel-happy this year. From mint green to lilac, models pranced around mimicking the happy colors of Easter eggs and reminiscent of our childhood Easter ensembles. Pick out whatever light-colored shade tickles you pink and strut down University Boulevard as if you were on a New York runway.

Another trend taking us back to our childhood is the fashionable cape. We can now embody our favorite superhero while rocking one of these statement pieces. Zac Posen was one of many designers who took the bold leap for the cape trend. Rocking the cape is a dramatic move, but you will definitely stand out at Dirtbag’s as the most fashionable of your friends.

Everyone loves a fall trend that carries over to spring. Don’t move your boxy cropped jackets into the back of your closet just yet, because these babies are hot ticket spring items. BCBG Max Azria and Rebecca Minkoff both sported this fresh take on an old piece. These jackets are a great way to dress up your favorite jeans or to impress at an interview. And let’s be honest, is there such thing as having too many jackets?

Wide-leg trousers are a spring must-have. These ultra chic pants always seem to be on the minds of fashion designers every season, but this year at Fashion Week, they were seen on numerous runways. Feeling like you can’t work this look? Get some that are a little slimmer and high-waisted to get a flattering long-lean look that is undeniably fashionable. You don’t have to be a supermodel with legs for days to wear these pants, but they sure will make you look like one. Get super casual with a denim pair, or get classy cream ones for an elegant night out.

Fashion Week was here and gone faster than a New York minute, but the styles stick with those who worship the fashion world. Well, at least for the season. Suit up, be bold and look great for spring in these fashion must-haves.
