Coach Dave Lawn of the Arizona baseball team meets with the infield to help the team get out of the inning on April 22 at Hi Corbett Field. The Wildcats would win the game in extra innings 7-6.

The Arizona baseball team picked up another win Friday night by a score of 7-6 in game two of their series hosting Nevada. Here are some key stats from the victory.

Solid seven-inning outing for TJ Nichols:

Despite giving up four runs on seven hits, including a tumultuous second inning, TJ Nichols never lost his confidence and was able to give the Wildcats seven solid innings of pitching. It wasn’t the best work we’ve seen out of him this season as he hit two batters and walked two more as well. Nichols held Nevada scoreless through his final three innings, however, and improved to 6-2 in starts on the year.

“The slider I feel a lot more confident in, and then the change-up is a pitch that this year has been really good for me, but I’m still not where I want to be,” Nichols said.

Two RBIs for Bingham and Caulfield each:

Mac Bingham got off to a bit of a rough start in this one, dropping a fly ball in center field which let Nevada take an early lead. He made up for it, however, stepping to the plate in the bottom of the second. With a man on base, Bullard roped a two-run homer to left field to cut the Nevada lead to a run. Garen Caulfield had a clutch moment of his own in the bottom of the eighth inning with the score tied 4-4. With the bases loaded and no outs, Caulfield sent a ball through the left side of the infield to score two runs and take a 6-4 lead.

Chase Davis led the team with three hits:

Davis got things going in the top of the first for the Wildcats with a single up the middle. In the third inning, he reached base once again on a single through the left side of the infield. His third and final hit of the night came in the bottom of the eighth when he reached on an infield single to third base, loading the bases for the second time that inning for Arizona.

Game three of the series is scheduled for 1 p.m. MST on Saturday afternoon.
