Rebecca Bloomwood has it all: a stable career as a journalist, a trendy flat in London and, best of all, a closet full of designer clothes.
But what she also has is a hole in her love life and a hypocritical career. While Bloomwood is a financial reporter for a magazine titled, Successful Saving, she lives in a flat she can’t afford and buys clothes she can’t afford, resulting in a credit card debt deep enough for her to drown in.
Sophie Kinsella’s novel and soon to be film, “”Confessions of a Shopaholic,”” takes us on an entertaining rollercoaster ride. We laugh at the ridiculous excuses Bloomwood makes for avoiding the bank’s numerous phone calls and letters backfire in her face, grumble as she feeds her shopping habit with money she doesn’t have, and sweat while she puts herself in sticky and awkward situations with no foreseeable resolve.
Bloomwood and her problems are easy to relate to. Everyone’s life has been turned upside down by that evil piece of plastic, and this pleasurable read gives a lighthearted approach to the financial troubles credit cards can cause.
