The No. 12 Arizona gymnastics team travels to Stanford, Calif., on Sunday to compete against Stanford in their first road meet of the season.
“”This early in the season it will be our first meet away from the home crowd and that will also be a learning experience for us,”” said UA head coach Bill Ryden. “”So this will be another big step in the progress of this current team.””
Ryden was pleased with his team’s performance last Friday in McKale Center as it defeated North Carolina State and Alaska-Anchorage, but thinks that his team has lots of room to improve, especially on the beam and the floor.
“”We certainly didn’t perform up to our capabilities and we want to perform better and hopefully that will transform into a higher team score,”” he said
Senior all-arounder Danielle Hicks agreed that even though the Gymcats had a good first meet, they need to clean up their routines.
Ryden expects his lineup to be virtually the same as it was against NC State, because senior All-American Karin Wurm is still nursing a stress fracture in her ankle.
