The Arizona volleyball team was selected to finish sixth in the Pacific 10 Conference this season in a preseason vote by the league’s head coaches Thursday.
The Wildcats collected 46 points, as defending champion Stanford, with 89, was chosen as the favorite to win the Pac-10.
The coaches have correctly picked the conference champion in 11 of the previous 18 polls. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own teams.
coaches’ poll
1. Stanford (8) 89 | 6. Arizona 46 |
2. USC (1) 77 | 7. Oregon 42 |
3. UCLA (1) 75 | 8. ASU 33 |
4. Washington 71 | 9. Oregon St. 26 |
5. California 57 | 10. Washington State 24 |
The poll projects the Wildcats to finish two spots higher in the conference than they did last season, when they posted a 13-17 overall record and a 4-14 Pac-10 mark. Arizona returns six starters and 11 letterwinners.
Arizona’s first practice is slated for Wednesday. The 2007 season begins Aug. 24 with nine of the conference’s 10 teams in action. Arizona will play four games that day as part of the Sheraton Four Points
Wildcat Classic.
