After several weeks on the road the Arizona men’s golf team will get a chance to compete in Tucson at the 2014 National Invitational Tournament.
The tournament is being hosted by the UA and will be held at the OMNI Tucson National – Catalina Course. This is a three-day tournament starting on Friday and concluding on Sunday.
No. 2 Oklahoma, No. 3 California, No. 9 Texas A&M and No. 24 UNLV are some of the teams that will be competing in this weekend’s tournament. Arizona is coming off of three consecutive top-five finishes in a row.
The line up for this tournament will remain the same from last tournament which featured senior Erik Oja, junior Alex McMahon, sophomore Kolton Lapa, junior Brenden Redfern and senior Benson Liu.
Team leader Erik Oja is coming off of a strong performance at the Del Walker Intercollegiate Golf Classic, finishing tied for fifth place. His effort was match by Liu, who posted a career low of 66.
Women travel to Florida
No. 12 Arizona women’s golf continues its season this weekend at the SunTrust Gator Women’s Invitational, hosted by Florida at the Mark Bostick Golf Course in Gainesville, Fla.
The tournament will begin Friday and will end on Sunday, with one round of golf being played each day. The field includes No. 16 Florida, No. 14 Oklahoma and No. 29 Virginia.
The Wildcats’ line for the tournament will be junior Kendall Price, junior Andrea Vilarasau, sophomore Lindsey Weaver, freshmen Jessica Vasilic and freshmen Wanasa Zhou.
In its last tournament Arizona finished in fourth place, its sixth top-ten finish for the 2013-2014 season.
Lindsey Weaver was Arizona’s top performer at the Bruin Wave Invitational finishing in eighth place. That was her third top-ten finish of the season. She is currently ranked as the 17th best women’s collegiate player by golfweek.com.
