TPD Bomb Squad did not find any explosives in an unattended package downtown on Tuesday afternoon.
The Tucson Police Department and the TPD Bomb Squad quickly responded to a suspicious unattended package, as well as a vehicle nearby the package downtown in the 300 block of Congress Street.
Prior to investigation, the package and vehicle were suspected of containing explosives, according to Sgt. Pete Dugan’s Twitter updates regarding the situation.
Around 1 p.m., Dugan tweeted that “[the] Bomb Squad just disrupted the suspicious package using a water disruption device.”
Congress Street was closed between Granada Avenue and Church Avenue throughout the investigation.
Just before 3 p.m., Dugan announced that officials did not find any explosive devices in the package or unattended vehicle. Congress Street re-opened to the public. Dugan thanked the TPD Bomb Squad “for keeping the community safe.”
