On Sept. 4, Arizona reported 722 cases and 41 deaths, and on Sept. 5, the state reported 832 cases and 33 deaths. During these two days, the UA reported a total of 162 new positive cases.
Finally, on Sept. 6, the state reported only 250 cases and 14 deaths, the third consecutive day with fewer than 1,000 new daily cases.
Week of Aug. 24:
On Monday, Aug. 24, Arizona reported 311 new cases alongside zero deaths. A day later, the state reported 859 cases alongside 21 deaths, the 12th straight day with fewer than 1,000 daily new cases.
On Aug. 26, Arizona reported 187 cases and 104 deaths, which was the lowest number of reported cases since June 1, according to The New York Times. On Aug. 27, Arizona reported 680 new cases alongside 33 deaths.

On Aug. 28, Arizona reported 519 cases and 49 deaths, and on Aug. 29, the state reported 629 cases and 29 deaths.
Finally, for the 17th consecutive day, on Aug. 30, the state reported fewer than 1,000 cases with 374 cases and 23 deaths. The last time Arizona reported more than 1000 cases was on Aug. 13.
Week of Aug. 17:
On Monday, Aug. 17, Arizona reported 468 new cases alongside zero deaths, the lowest number of cases since June 1, per The New York Times. A day later, the state reported around 900 cases alongside 23 deaths.
On Aug. 19, Arizona reported about 650 cases alongside 108 new deaths. On Aug. 20, Arizona reported about 750 new cases alongside 45 deaths.

On Aug. 21, Arizona reported 619 cases and four deaths, and on Aug. 22, the state reported 996 cases and 68 deaths.
Finally, for the tenth consecutive day, on Aug. 23, the state reported fewer than 1,000 cases with 207 cases and 15 deaths. The last time Arizona reported more than 1000 cases was on Aug. 13.
Week of Aug. 10:
On Monday, Aug. 10, Arizona reported 548 new cases alongside 5 deaths, the lowest number of cases since June 4, per The New York Times. A day later, the state reported around 1,200 cases alongside 45 deaths.
On Aug. 12, Arizona reported about 700 cases alongside 143 new deaths, the second-highest daily death count. The deadliest day, so far, was on July 30 when the state reported 172 deaths. On Aug. 13, Arizona reported about 1,300 new cases alongside 37 deaths.

On Aug. 14, Arizona reported 928 cases and 40 deaths, and on Aug. 15, the state reported 933 cases and 69 deaths.
Finally, for the third consecutive day, on Aug. 16, the state reported fewer than 1,000 cases with 883 cases and 14 deaths.
Week of Aug. 3:
On Monday, Aug. 3, Arizona reported about 1,000 new cases alongside 14 deaths, per The New York Times. A day later, the state reported around another 1,000 cases alongside 66 deaths.
Also on Aug. 4, Novavax released their results from phase one of clinical trials for a COVID-19 vaccine. By the second dose, all participants given the vaccine candidate produced neutralizing antibodies and no one was hospitalized.

On Aug. 5, Arizona reported about 1,700 new cases alongside 87 deaths, and a day later Arizona saw 1,444 new cases and 70 new deaths.
Similarly, on Aug. 7, Arizona reported 1,406 cases and 79 deaths. On Aug. 8, the state reported 1,054 cases and 56 deaths.
Finally, on Aug. 9, the state reported 816 cases and 13 deaths. This was the first time Arizona has reported fewer than 1,000 cases since June 8.
Week of July 27:
On Monday, July 27, Arizona reported its second consecutive day with fewer than 2,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19. A day later, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention updated its guidelines regarding self-isolation. The agency said that most people can discontinue isolation and precautions 10 days after symptom onset instead of waiting for another test.

On July 29, Arizona reported about 2,300 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and about 2,500 a day later on July 30. That same day, Arizona saw another single-day record in the number of confirmed deaths at 172.
On July 31, Arizona ended the month with about 3,200 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 67 confirmed deaths, according to The New York Times.
To kick off the month of August, Arizona reported 2,992 new confirmed cases and 53 deaths. Finally, on Sunday, Aug. 2, the state reported only 1,465 new confirmed cases and 18 confirmed deaths.
Week of July 20:
Arizona started this week with 1,559 new confirmed cases with 8,477 new tests reported. On July 20, the state reported 23 new confirmed deaths. A day later, Arizona had 134 new confirmed deaths on July 21, one of its most deadly days.
On July 21, the U.S., as a whole, reported more than 1,000 confirmed deaths for the first time in July. Two days later, on July 23, Gov. Doug Ducey held a press conference, where he extended the pause on gyms, bars, movie theaters, water parks and tubing.
That same day, Arizona passed the grim milestone of having over 3,000 confirmed deaths from COVID-19. At the press conference, Dr. Cara Christ, director for the Arizona Department of Health Services, promised to resolve the backlog of tests in Arizona by July 31.
On July 24, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced its first diagnostic test for asymptomatic carriers of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. This test will be paramount as schools are on the brink of reopening. A day later, Arizona reported its second-highest daily death count with 144 new confirmed deaths alongside 3,748 new confirmed cases.
On Sunday, July 26, Arizona reported 1,973 new confirmed cases with nearly 12,000 confirmed tests. On that same day, the state reported 19 people succumbed to COVID-19.
Week of July 13:
Arizona kicked off the week with only 1,357 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on July 13. However, that day, the state only reported 7,514 new tests. A day later, the state reported 4,273 new cases and 92 new deaths.
On July 15, Arizona topped its previous day death count with 97 new confirmed deaths and 3,257 new confirmed cases. A day later, the state reported 3,259 new cases and 58 new deaths.
On July 17, the U.S. saw another single-day record increase in new cases with about 74,000 across the nation. This number is steadily reaching Dr. Anthony Fauci’s earlier prediction of 100,000 new confirmed cases per day from the end of June.
On Saturday, July 18, Arizona, at the time, saw its highest single-day death count with 147, alongside 2,742 confirmed cases. On that same day, the state only reported 9,026 tests. On July 19, Arizona reported 2,359 new confirmed cases alongside 31 deaths.
According to the Arizona Department of Health Services, 87% of intensive care unit beds and 49% of the ventilators across the state are currently in use, as of July 19.
Week of July 6:
Ducey allowed local governments in Arizona to implement their own mask policies on June 17. Nearly one month later, Arizona was starting to see a slight drop in cases, but was too early to definitively call these numbers a trend.
On July 7, Arizona saw 3,653 new confirmed cases and 117 new confirmed deaths. A day later, Arizona only had 145 — or 9% of the total capacity — ICU beds available, per the Arizona Department of Health Services.

On July 10, Arizona had 4,221 new confirmed cases and 44 new confirmed deaths with a drop in total ICU bed usage, bringing it to 89% full. Since then, Arizona has dropped in total confirmed cases on both July 11 (3,038) and 12 (2,237). These two numbers could be too little for a trend, but with ICU beds then hovering at around 90% of their capacity, Arizona is in dire need of light in a very dark tunnel.
Of the total number of COVID-19 cases in Arizona since January, about 42,963 confirmed cases — or more than one-third of the total number of cases — have come in July.
Week of June 29:
Arizona and the U.S. as a whole saw a few record-setting days this week, not only in terms of confirmed cases and deaths, but also looking at ICU bed capacity across the state.
On Monday, June 29, right after Arizona set a record the day before, the state only reported 625 new confirmed cases as a result of a lab not reporting its data on time. That same day, Ducey issued an executive order to pause the operations of bars, gyms, indoor movie theaters, water parks and tubing.
The day after, on June 30, Arizona reported 4,682 new confirmed cases as a result of 625 cases being reported on June 29. On that day, Fauci warned the U.S. could see 100,000 new coronavirus cases a day, with the daily increase currently around 50,000.
To kick off the new month, Arizona saw another record-setting day on July 1. Arizona reported 4,878 new confirmed cases, 88 new confirmed deaths and hospital ICU beds reaching 89% capacity, new highs, per the Arizona Department of Health Services.
Vice President Mike Pence, among other White House officials, paid a visit to Arizona to discuss the issues related to COVID-19 with the state. Ducey asked Pence and the White House for 500 more healthcare workers due to shortages around the state.

On July 2, for the second time, the U.S. had over 50,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in one day. A day later, on July 3, Arizona saw 4,433 new confirmed cases and 31 new confirmed deaths. Hospital ICU beds reached 91% capacity, another new high, per the Arizona Department of Health Services.
As the country celebrated American independence, Arizona saw 2,695 new confirmed cases on July 4 alongside 17 new deaths with a drop in ICU bed capacity to 90%. The day after, on July 5, Arizona saw nearly 3,600 confirmed cases with four confirmed deaths with a drop in ICU bed capacity to 89%.
Week of June 22:
This past week, Arizona has seen a steady increase in cases of COVID-19, averaging about 3,400 confirmed cases per day in the period from June 21 to 28. However, the high test-positive rates across Arizona have been more cause for concern.
Every day in this week-long period has had a total test positive rate over 20%, per the ASU Biodesign Institute’s “Critical COVID-19 trends” website.

On Sunday, June 28, Arizona saw another single-day record increase in cases at 3,858, per the Arizona Department of Health Services. Confirmed cases across the globe recently passed 10 million at the time with confirmed deaths recently passing 500,000.
“The next couple of weeks are going to be critical in our ability to address those surges we are seeing in Florida, Texas, Arizona and other states,” Fauci said.
As of June 27, 87% of Arizona’s adult intensive care unit beds and 44% of the ventilators were in use.
