Amateurs champ Tyler leads 3 former Wildcats in Calif.

The U.S. Amateur Championship at the Olympic Club in San Francisco, which started Monday and runs through Sunday, boasts the play of three current and former Wildcat golfers.

As of yesterday afternoon, Nathan Tyler, who completed his eligibility for Arizona after the spring season, was tied for second place after shooting a 2-under 68 on the par-70, 6,786-yard Ocean Course. The performance comes only three days after Tyler won the Arizona Amateur championship.

Senior Trey Denton finished the first two rounds at 8-over 148. He was tied for 114th place after a 6-over 76 on the par-70, 6,948-yard Lakeside Course and a 2-over 72 on the Ocean Course.

Junior Tyler Neal carded an 18-over 158 total for the two courses, placing him in tie for 274th place. He shot a 10-over 80 and an 8-over 78 on the Lakeside and Ocean courses, respectively.

After the completion of the second round of stroke play yesterday, the field of players will be cut to 64 players and the rest of the event will be held in match play, which is held exclusively on the Lakeside Course.
