UAPD sends out campus alert regarding Phoenix freeway shootings

The University of Arizona Police Department sent out a Campus Watch alert Thursday evening regarding shootings taking place on the Interstate 10 in Phoenix.

According to the alert, “The Arizona Department of Public Safety is investigating a string of shootings directed at vehicles traveling along Interstate 10 in Central Phoenix.” A suspect involved in the shootings has not been identified.

According to an Arizona Republic news article, the DPS officials investigated three reports of damages to cars Thursday morning, but confirmed only one of them being related to the highway shootings. There have now been 11 incidents of shootings on the I-10.

“The Department of Public Safety suggests avoiding the use of I-10 between 35th and 83rd avenues,” the UAPD alert stated.
