The First Amendment Coalition sponsored a seminar Friday on
the UA campus about the governing use of new video and cell phone rules in the
courtroom.
UA School of Journalism staff, reporters from Arizona Daily Star, KVOA-TV and KGUN9-TV and the Society of
Professional Journalists attended the seminar.
The moderator, Phoenix Media Law Attorney, Daniel C. Barr,
led a panel of five experts on the subject including KVOA-TV News Director,
Cathie Batbie, Chief Deputy Pima County Attorney, Amelia C. Cramer, Courts
Reporter of the Arizona Daily Star, Patrick McNamara, Pima County Superior
Court Judge, Scott Rash and presiding Judge of the Pima County Superior Court,
Sally Simmons.
Panelists answered questions from the audience about the
guidelines and challenges of the new rules to allow cameras, recorders,
smartphones, tablets and laptops in courtroom.
