Underclasswomen scored two of Arizona soccer’s three goals on its 1-1 trip to Florida over the weekend. Sophomore forward Paige Crouch scored in the Wildcats’ 2-0 win over Florida International University and freshman forward Charlotte Brascia scored in the UA’s 2-1 loss to Florida Gulf Coast.

Senior outside hitter Madi Kingdon had a match-high 21 kills, with a .366 hitting percentage, a team-high four service aces, seven digs and an assist in Arizona volleyball’s annual Red-Blue Scrimmage on Saturday.

The Arizona Rattlers won their third straight Arena Bowl on Saturday with a 72-32 win over the Cleveland Gladiators on the road. The Rattlers have made it to four straight Arena Bowls, have won five Arena Football League titles and became the only team besides the Detroit Drive (1988-1990) to win three championships in a row.

The U.S. national men’s basketball team completed its home exhibition games before the FIBA World Cup in dominant fashion. Despite missing NBA stars and the injury to Indiana Pacer Paul George, the Americans beat Brazil 95-78, the Dominican Republic 105-62 and Puerto Rico 112-86.


After starting head coach Tony Amato’s first season at Arizona undefeated through its first seven games, the Arizona soccer team lost its first Sunday game of 2014. The Wildcats lost 2-1 at Florida Gulf Coast after sophomore midfielder Lexe Selman’s last-second goal was waved off.

Johnny Manziel lost the Cleveland Brown’s quarterback competition despite all the hype. Johnny Football was also fined $12,000 for flipping off the Washington NFL team. One of the other highly talked about rookies, St. Louis Ram Michael Sam, made fun of Manziel’s infamous money gesture after one of his two sacks of Manziel on Saturday.

Defending European and Spanish league champion Real Madrid lost to cross-town rival Atletico Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup 2-1 on the aggregate of the two-legged competition. Reigning world player of the year Cristiano Ronaldo left the game at halftime.

The Oakland Athletics have lost eight of their last 13 games to drop out of first place in the American League West. The Athletics won their three-game series against the Los Angeles Angels, but lost first place to the Angels with a 9-4 defeat on Sunday.
