One day after Austin Wells was selected in round one by the New York Yankees, teammate Matthew Dyer was taken in round four by the other New York team as the Mets selected the super-utility player with the No. 120 overall pick. 

Dyer was announced as a catcher when he was selected, one of the many times he saw playing time at, as the only positions he did not get playing time at was center field and shortstop. 

After transferring from Oregon in 2018 where he was forced to sit a year due to the NCAA transfer rules, Dyer shot out of the cannon in his first year down in Tucson hitting .393 with four home runs, 28 RBIs and 46 runs scored while slugging .571 with a .480 on-base percentage. Dyer missed the last month of the season with a broken hand, but his batting average finished second on the team and third in the conference. 

Dyer got off to a much slower start in this past abbreviated season, hitting just .220 over 15 games played. However, he did finish the year with a six-game hitting streak and led the team in home runs (3) and RBIs (18). 

Dyer can play almost anywhere on the field, so there’ll be a lot of flexibility as to what position he’ll play if he chooses to enter the MLB. The No. 120 pick has an approximated pick value of $478,300.
