The Arizona women’s golf team took care of business in enemy territory this weekend, winning the PING ASU Invitational in Tempe. The Wildcats won the tournament by four strokes over runner-up Washington, wrapping the tournament up by shooting a final round score of 277 (-11.) The win marks the second in as many weekends for the UA, as they won the Hawkeye El Tigre Invitational last weekend in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. 

“I’m very proud of how these young ladies played today,” UA head coach Laura Ianello said in a press release by Arizona Athletics. “They fought until the very end. Gigi, Haley and Yu-Sang had critical under par rounds and Bianca came up big with a 1-over round. We are super happy to win at ASU. We need to continue to improve but I like the progress that I’m seeing in my teams game. We are home for two weeks before we leave for our next event in Napa.”

Junior Haley Moore continued her hot play for the Wildcats, finishing tied for second at 210 (-6,) three shots off from champion Jillian Hollis of Georgia. Moore won the Hawkeye El Tigre Invitational last weekend, and continued her strong play by finishing tied for second with 14 birdies for the week. 

Freshman Yu-Sang Hou also tied for second at 6-under par, winning the Ann Votik Award for low freshman score of the tournament. For Hou, the finish is her highest as a Wildcat, with her previous best being a fifth-place at the Wildcat Invitational. Hou’s strong play was helped by leading the event in Par-5 scoring, shooting 8-under par.

Junior Bianca Pagdanganan tied for sixth at 3-under par for the tournament, her second top-10 finish this season. She placed top five in the field in both Par-4 scoring and birdies made. 

Junior Gigi Stoll finished in the top-10 in both Par-4 scoring average and eagles, rebounding from a rough first two rounds to close out the tournament in 41st place with a final round score of 68 (-4.) Freshman Cecilie Bofill rounded out the team scoring tied for 68th place, while sophomore Sandra Nordaas, who competed as an individual, finished in 53rd place. 

The Wildcats as a team finished in the top-five in scoring on Par-3, Par-4 and Par-5 holes, leading the field in Par-5 scoring at 17-under par. They were just one off the lead in birdies as well with 55, thanks to Moore, Pagdanganan and Hou each tying for second individually at 14 birdies each. 

The Wildcats will go for three wins in a row at the Silverado Shootout next week. The Shootout will be played at the Silverado Golf Course in Napa, CA, April 8-10.
