    ASU downs UA tennis teams

ASU drops men’s and women’s tennis

A loss to ASU is not the way the Arizona men’s tennis team wanted to end its spring break.

The Devils beat the Wildcats 4-3 at the Robson Tennis Center on Saturday. Arizona lost each match 4-3.

Freshman Andres Carrasco continued his solid play by picking up Arizona’s first point with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Juan Carlos Rebeza.

The Sun Devils made it 3-1 when Andres Arango beat freshman Jay Goldman 7-5, 7-5. Sophomore Pat Metham couldn’t close out his opponent and dropped a tight match by scores of 6-2, 3-6 and 7-5.

Simultaneously on court six, sophomore Ravid Hazi defeated TJ Bellama 5-7, 7-5, 6-3, but it was just a case of too little too late.

To end the action today, senior Bruno Alcala beat Harry Skinner 3-6, 6-4, 7-5.

UA women’s tennis no match for Devils

The UA women’s tennis team lost its fourth straight match after ASU got the best of the Wildcats, 7-0, in Tempe Saturday.

ASU (11-3) captured the doubles point by winning court two and three. UA juniors Danielle Steinberg and Claire Rietsch went into a tiebreaker on court one but Arizona (7-10) lost 7-2.

ASU didn’t lose one set during all six singles matches.

The match was clinched for ASU when Nadia Abdala, who trailed 4-2 in the first set against Steinberg, proceeded to win the next 10 games and take the match 6-4, 6-0.
