No. 17 Arizona gymnastics faced a close defeat against No. 20 ASU

The Arizona and ASU gymnastics programs last faced off against one another on Feb. 22, 2016, when Arizona came out on top, winning with a final score of 196.375 compared to ASU’s score of 193.975. The Wildcats entered this match having won the last two meetings against the Sun Devils. However, this time around, by only 0.600 points, the No. 17 Arizona GymCats fell to No. 20 ASU on Thursday, Feb. 15. The Wildcats posted a score of 196.250, while ASU earned a total score of 196.850. Emily Mueller and Caroline Herry earned season highs. Alysen Fears won third place all-around with a score of 38.325, behind Sun Devils Jada Mangahas and Hannah Scharf.

Vault:

On its first rotation, Arizona scored 48.825 on vault. Fears, Ainsley Greever and Jessica Castles each earned scores of 9.775. Abigayle Martin and Malia Hargrove followed up with scores of 9.750. Lastly, Emma Strom finished the rotation with a score of 9.725.

Uneven bars:

Arizona scored 48.875 on bars for its second rotation. Sophie Derr earned a 9.875 to lead the team. Mueller and Elena Deets both posted 9.775. Hargrove earned a score of 9.750, while Martin posted a 9.700. Finishing the rotation, Fears scored a 9.075.

Beam:

On the third rotation, Arizona posted a score of 49.225 on beam. Mueller earned a season-high with a score of 9.900. Deets followed up with a 9.875. Martin and Herry both posted scores of 9.825. Castles earned a 9.800, and Fears scored 9.750.

Floor:

In the final rotation, the Wildcats posted a score of 49.325 on floor. Herry also earned a season high with a score of 9.900. Hargrove posted a 9.875. Mueller, Strom and Deets each earned 9.850. Fears earned a 9.725.

All Around – Alysen Fears, 38.325

Alysen Fears, Ainsley Greever and Jessica Castles – Vault, 9.775

Sophie Derr – Bars, 9.875

Emily Mueller – Beam, 9.900

Caroline Herry – Floor, 9.900

Looking ahead:

Arizona will be heading on the road to take on Texas Woman’s University in Kitty Magee Arena, joined with the University of Arkansas and the University of Alabama on Monday, Feb. 19 at 1 p.m.
