Members of the Arizona men’s and women’s diving team made their way up north to NAU to compete in the NCAA Zone Diving Championships in Flagstaff from March 11-13. Divers Gage DuBois, Austin Flaute and Bjorn Markentin joined Brooke Earley and Zarah Ayazi to represent the Wildcats in Flagstaff.
Day 1: Monday, March 11
On the first day of the NCAA Zone E Diving Championships, Arizona’s divers showcased their talents in the Women’s 3-meter Championship and Men’s Platform events. Earley represented the Wildcats in the Women’s 3-meter Championship and delivered a solid performance, securing sixth place with a total score of 599.90. Additionally, in the Men’s Platform event, Dubois demonstrated his diving skills, placing fifth overall with a total score of 686.05.
Day 2: Tuesday, March 12
On the second day, Dubois, Flaute, and Markentin all represented Arizona in the Men’s 3-meter Championship. In the preliminary rounds, Dubois secured ninth place with a score of 334.85, Flaute finished in 12th with a score of 320.75 and Markentin followed in 13th with a score of 320.25.
The men continued their strong performance into the final round, with Dubois finishing in seventh with a total score of 713.60, Flaute followed in the 14th spot with a score of 646.20 and Markentin in 15th with a final score of 641.85.
The day’s final event was the Women’s 1-meter Championship, with both Earley and Ayazi participating. Earley finished the preliminaries in seventh place with a score of 275.25, while Ayazi finished in 19th place with a score of 255.90, not advancing to the finals. Earley maintained her consistency in the final round, finishing in the same position with a total score of 557.85.
Day 3: Wednesday, March 13
The third and final day of the Championships included two events, the Women’s Platform Championship Final and the Men’s 1-meter Championship Final. None of the women from Arizona competed in the first event but Dubois, Flaute and Markentin showed their skills in the Men’s 1-meter event.
Dubois finished 9th with a total score of 616.10, Markentin secured the 11th spot with a total score of 591.10 and Flaute closely followed in the 14th position with a total score of 572.75.
Looking ahead:
This year’s NCAA Division I Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships will be held March 20-23 at the Jack Bauerle Pool at the Gabrielsen Natatorium in Athens, Georgia. Earley will represent the women’s team for Arizona in 1-meter and 3-meter dive events.
Meanwhile, this year’s NCAA Division I Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships will be held March 27-30 at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, Indiana. DuBois will represent the men’s team for Arizona in the 1-meter, 3-meter and platform events.
