The University of Arizona soccer team beat NAU 5-0 on Thursday, Aug. 22 at Murphy Field at Mulcahy Soccer Stadium.
The Wildcats now have a 3-0 start to their season and their second 5-0 game this year.
The Wildcats started aggressive on offense in the first half. On the other side of the ball, defense did a great job getting in front of the Lumberjacks’ offense. Megan Chelf got her first goal of the season with an assist from Nicole Dallin in the 10th minute of the match.
Closing out the first half, the Wildcats scored two more goals. Trinity Dorsey had her first season goal, slipping it through the NAU’s goaltenders hands, and the second goal was scored by Sami Baytosh. Arizona took five shots on goal during the first half, shaking up the Lumberjacks’ defenders. The Wildcats went into half up 3-0.
In the second half, the Wildcats’ defense stayed active, letting their offense continue to have perfect possession of the ball. Even with a good lead Arizona did not give up in the match, with freshman Jessica Bedolla scoring another goal.
With less than eight minutes left, the Wildcats still hadn’t taken their foot off the gas, scoring another goal made by Gianna Christiansen.
Arizona had 3 more shots on goal in the second half and only allowed one from NAU. The Wildcats showed exceptional skill and determination, leaving the Tucson community energized for the season ahead.
Arizona will travel to Chapel Hill, N.C. to play against #5 University of North Carolina on Sunday, Aug. 25 at 9 a.m.
