Yet another exciting week for University of Arizona fans has flown by, with several teams kicking the season open again. There were stunning performances from women’s golf at the Folds of Honor Collegiate tournament. Jordan Wilson of the Wildcats’ volleyball team has also been crucial in upholding Arizona’s 9-0 winning streak to start their season.
Team: Women’s golf
The Arizona women’s golf team ventured to Grand Haven, Mich. to play in the Fold of Honor Collegiate from Sept. 9-Sept. 11. The Wildcats coasted in the tournament’s first round, taking an early first place with a +1 over par. They were led by Carolina Melgrati who tied for third with a -2 under par. Charlotte Back, Nena Wongthanavimok and Lilas Pinthier all were one stroke over par, rounding out the team.
The Wildcats struggled slightly in the second round, finishing fourth on the day with nine over par and falling to second overall. However, despite the fall in the score, Melgrati would stand out with a -3 under par, tying first place on the day and first overall.
The third and final day would be the best for the Wildcats, as they would squeeze by Florida State University with +4 over par compared to their +7. Strong performances by Back, who would lead day three with -4 under par and Wongthanavimok, who had -2 under par, kept the Wildcats going until the very end to seal the tournament victory.
This season’s opening performance was the best for the Wildcats since the 2012-2013 season, in which the Wildcats won the Mason Rudolph Championship after going second on the first day and first on the second and third.
