The Arizona men’s basketball team returns to the court to host its annual Red-Blue showcase on Friday, Oct. 4 at 6 p.m. in McKale Center. Arizona will be presenting the 2024-2025 team and the Wildcats will take part in multiple events to share with awaiting fans.
With it being Arizona’s first year entering the Big 12 conference, anticipation for the season has begun to kick in and the team hopes for a lively turnout on Friday. Throughout the night, fans can expect to see multiple events such as a 3-point shooting contest, a slam-dunk contest and a scrimmage between the red and blue teams to cap off the night.
Player introductions will also be part of the night and will involve a look at returning players, including Pac-12 player of the year Caleb Love. Alongside Love, other returning Wildcats to note in the backcourt are KJ Lewis and Jaden Bradley. Arizona fans will also get to see Conrad Martinez, Henri Veesaar, Motiejus Krivas, Grant Weitman, Will Kuykendall, Jackson Cook, Luke Champion and Will Menaugh take the floor again this season.
Notable departures include players like Pelle Larsson, who was drafted as the No. 44 overall pick in the second round of the NBA draft by the Miami Heat, and Keshad Johnson, who was signed on a two-way contract by the same team. Head coach Tommy Lloyd will have to find a way to fill the shoes of these former Wildcats.
New players joining the 2024-2025 team include 6-foot-8 freshman Carter Bryant. Bryant is a Top 20 recruit coming to Arizona from Corona Centennial High School as an impactful forward able to make room on the floor. Bryant, a McDonald’s All-American, averaged 17 points and nine rebounds in his senior year of high school.
Transfers to the team include Trey Townsend, a 6-foot-6 forward from Oakland University, who averaged 17.3 points in the 2023-2024 season, as well as University of Tennessee transfer Tobe Awaka, who comes in as a 6-foot-8 forward.
Lloyd will be returning and leading Arizona for his fourth season as head coach. Finishing off the 2023-2024 season with a 27-9 overall record, Lloyd helped Arizona clinch the Pac-12 regular-season title after beating UCLA 88-65 on March 7.
