The University of Arizona soccer team beat University of Central Florida 3-2 on Thursday, Oct. 10 in Houston at Carl Lewis International Complex. The Wildcats now have a 9-3-2 record and are 4-2-1 in conference play.
Due to the hurricanes hitting Florida, UCF had to move this match to Houston for safety reasons.
The match started off intense, as Arizona was looking to get another win on the road. Only 11 minutes in, Arizona’s Gianna Christiansen once again scored the first goal, getting the Wildcats on the board early. Fouls were called on UCF, awarding the Wildcats with multiple throw-ins. With the high intensity, Nicole Dallin brought the heat scoring the second goal of the night for the Wildcats as they extended the lead to 2-0.
However, aggressiveness caused Brooke Ahern to get a yellow card for unsportsmanlike conduct going into the first half with Arizona up 2-0.
In the second half, UCF came off strong scoring a goal 46 minutes in, cutting the Wildcats’ lead in half. Arizona continued to fight back but the team’s aggression continued to allow UCF to have possession in the second half. Chloe Netzel laid one in for UCF, making it a tie game at 2. Megan Chelf also received a yellow card in the 74th minute for unsportsmanlike conduct, making her the second Wildcat of the night to be carded.
UCF suffered another foul which resulted in an Arizona penalty goal kick. Christiansen took the shot for the Wildcats and got the lead back for Arizona. The rest of the match was back and forth, as Arziona continued to keep possession to win this game 3-2.
The Wildcats will be staying in Houston for their next game against the University of Houston on Sunday, Oct. 13 at 11 a.m.
