The University of Arizona women’s basketball team dominated Chicago State University 84-48 on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 12 p.m. in the Patricia Jones Convocation Center, extending the Wildcats’ win streak to five games.
Sophomore forward, Breya Cunningham led the way with 14 points, five rebounds, to go along with two blocks and a pair of steals. Behind her was Lauryn Swann who contributed 12 points and five rebounds off the bench. Notably, Skylar Jones tallied four steals against Chicago State and scored 11 points.
The Wildcats started the game strong, going on a 19-2 scoring run in the opening quarter. The Arizona defense was clicking on all cylinders forcing Chicago State to turn the ball over thirteen times with nine of them being steals in the first two quarters.
The Cougars shot a whopping 9-for-32 from the field and only 11 percent from deep while putting up 22 first half points. Arizona went into halftime leading Chicago State 52-22.
Swann led the team with 10 first-half points going 3-for-5 from the floor. Jones, a sophomore guard, followed, scoring 9 points on 4-for-4 shooting from the field.
Coming out of halftime, Arizona went 0-for-6 from beyond the arc. After experiencing multiple scoring droughts, the Wildcats collectively shot 37.5 percent from the field completing the third quarter.
Arizona’s struggles continued as the team shot 25 percent and went 1-for-7 from the 3-point line. However, the Wildcats’ defense held Chicago State to shoot 17.6 percent from the field, allowing just 8 points in the closing quarter. Arizona went on to win 84-48.
The Wildcats were efficient from the floor, shooting 43.9 percent as a team and going 21-for-28 from the free throw line. Half of Arizona’s scoring came from inside the paint, putting up 42 points. Arizona was dominant defensively, out rebounding Chicago State 57-28.

Arizona will travel to play NAU on Wednesday, Nov. 20 at 6 p.m. in Rolle Activity Center.
