Shosh, 27, says that they have been seeing spirits since they were a child. Growing up in a “very Christian” community, their claims were dismissed, and over time, the spirits went away. However, as they grew up, they remained interested in the paranormal.
Shosh attended art school in Baltimore ,where, they say a poltergeist began to terrorize them and their roommates. There were knocks in the middle of the night, window blinds falling over, and lights flickering on and off.
“Like something you see in paranormal movies,” Shosh said.
Shosh and their roommates enlisted the help of Awo Faleyewa, a psychic medium, to remove the poltergeist. Although Shosh was initially intimidated by Faleyewa’s presence, after she performed the cleansing Shosh began mentoring under her.
Shosh studied under several other tutors to become a psychic medium. Originally, they had intended to move to Oregon, but wildfires forced them to relocate. After being homeless for a few months, Shosh moved to Tucson to be with their family. What was only supposed to be a temporary home ended up becoming a permanent residence. Shosh found that Tucson’s intense weather and spiritual community made it a better fit for their practice.
“I think a lot of people come to the desert to find themselves; the desert will rip you open,” Shosh said. “If you think about Tucson, its two biggest events are the All Souls Procession and the Gem Show.”
Shosh now operates The Otherworldly Archive, where they offer a mentorship program. Over the course of three months, Shosh mentors 4-5 trainees once a week in practices such as energy healing and channeling sessions. In addition to this, they work with clientele at their own practice as well as at The Ninth House metaphysical supply store.
Shosh’s beliefs are rooted in string theory. According to them, our physical bodies exist here in the 3rd dimension, while we are moving through the 4th dimension of time. Spirits ,however, reside in higher dimensions and can be contacted by mediums, such as Shosh, to speak to us here in the 3rd dimension.
So what happens when we die? Shosh is not sure, but they personally believe that the afterlife is tailored to the individual, whether it’s heaven, reincarnation or becoming one with the Earth. They also believe that every human leaves a spiritual imprint on the Earth, and that is passed down through their lineage and held in their DNA.
Shosh’s work connects them to the larger spirit community of Tucson. Their clients come from different backgrounds- Buddhist, Christian, New Age, Pagan or Wiccan. For Shosh, spirituality is personal and they can connect with anyone on that spiritual level.
“I feel like we hold a lot of wisdom and knowledge in our bodies and when people are having spirit experiences they’re often told that they mean nothing,” Shosh said. “I just want people to know they’re not alone.”
