The new year started with a competitive yet tough home loss for the University of Arizona men’s swim and dive team after a meet against Harvard University on Jan. 10. This ended in the tough defeat as the Crimson beat the Wildcats with a final score of 178-122.
Coming off the cusp of an onslaught against the BYU Cougars, Arizona looked to start 2025 on a victorious. Two Wildcats achieved Big 12 honors the past week. Ralph Daleiden was named Big 12 Swimmer of the Week and Gage Dubois was named Big 12 Diver of the Week.
This week, Daleiden found himself on the podium for the 200-meter freestyle after an impressive performance facing the Cougars last week.
Mason Nyboer stood out among swimmers in the competition, as he was the only Wildcat to achieve two first-place finishes in the 1000-meter (9:10.19) and 500-meter freestyle (4:26.07).
Junior swimmer Bryan Wong achieved his personal best in the 200-meter breaststroke. His time of 1:58.67 earned him the second-place spot in the event.
DuBois delivered another exceptional performance in both the 3-meter and 1-meter dives, placing first in the 3-meter (378.60) and second in the 1-meter dive (341.40). He was the only men’s diver to make it onto the podium for any of the diving events.
The Wildcats’ next opponent will be the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers. Their competition will be held at home in Tucson on Saturday, Jan. 18 at 10 a.m. This is Arizona’s last home meet for the rest of the season.
