The new year started with a competitive yet tough home loss for the University of Arizona men’s swim and dive team after a meet against Harvard University on Jan. 10. The Crimson beat the Wildcats with a final score of 178-122.
Coming off the of an onslaught against the BYU Cougars at the end of 2024, Arizona looked to start this year on a victory. Two Wildcats achieved Big 12 honors the previous week: Ralph Daleiden was named Big 12 Swimmer of the Week and Gage DuBois was named Big 12 Diver of the Week.
This week, Daleiden found himself on the podium for the 200-yard freestyle after an impressive performance facing the Cougars.
Mason Nyboer stood out among swimmers in the competition against Harvard. He was the only Wildcat to achieve two first-place finishes, in the 1000y (9:10.19) and 500y freestyle (4:26.07).
Junior swimmer Bryan Wong achieved his personal best in the 200y breaststroke. His time of 1:58.67 earned him second place in the event.
DuBois delivered another exceptional performance in both the 3-meter and 1-meter dives, placing first in the 3-meter (378.60) and second in the 1-meter dive (341.40). He was the only men’s diver to make it onto the podium for Arizona’s diving squad.
The Wildcats’ next opponent will be the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers. Their competition will be held at home in Tucson on Saturday, Jan. 18 at 10 a.m. This is Arizona’s last home meet for the rest of the season.
