Just northeast of the University of Arizona lies one of Tucson’s breathtaking Gem, Mineral & Fossil Shows. The Mineral Village Show on North Oracle Road fills an entire block with rare gem, mineral, crystal and fossil collections, accompanied by the bustle of international enthusiasts and curious locals.
This show on Oracle is just the start, as the Gem, Mineral & Fossil Shows feature over 50 events and draw in 65,000 visitors every winter!
During the first two weeks of February, Tucson becomes the art capital of the world, attracting collectors, vendors and gemologists who come together for a one-of-a-kind experience.
“It’s been a bucket list item for years,” Jason William, an attendee, said. Coming all the way from Florida, William is a collector himself. He commented on the exceptionally rare gold displays and was blown away by what he witnessed. “We were in New York at the Museum of Natural History, and they only had a couple of small pieces of gold specimens, because it’s that hard to come by. They don’t compare to what we’ve seen here,” William said.
William plans to spend the week visiting as many shows as possible, including the major Gem & Mineral Show at the Tucson Convention Center. This year’s theme is “Shades of Green – Experience the Magic!”

Even vendors who have been attending the shows for decades are still in awe of their size and the audience they attract each year. As crowds swarm to the world’s oldest and most prestigious gem exhibition, this ordinarily laid-back college town sees every hotel filled with ecstatic international collectors and connoisseurs.
Until Feb. 16, the Tucson Gem, Mineral & Fossil Shows will be open to the public daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Whether you’re looking to purchase a 50-pound amethyst for your collection or simply admire some magnificent earthly treasures, there’s something for everyone at the Tucson Gem Show.
