The University of Arizona men’s and women’s swim and dive teams’ toughest challenge is yet to come as they take on top-25 ranked ASU. The Wildcats’ challenge will take place Feb. 8 at Mona Plummer Aquatic Center in Tempe.
As of current rankings by the CSCAA, ASU’s men’s swim and dive is ranked No. 4 in the nation while the women’s team is ranked No. 17.
ASU men’s swimmers come with multiple accomplishments; the Sun Devils have six-time Big 12 Swimmer of the Week, Ilya Kharun, the most awarded swimmer in the Big 12 this season.
ASU also has seven separate Big 12 Newcomers of the Week including two-time winners Tolu Young and Lucien Vergnes, along with individual winners Tommy Palmer, Jonathon Adam and Quin Seider.
The same stands for the ASU women’s swim and dive standout Caroline Bentz, a four-time Big 12 Swimmer of the Week and Newcomer of the Week. The graduate transfer from Virginia Tech University will be one of the toughest competitors Arizona will have at the event.
The women’s team also has another strong newcomer in two-time Big 12 Swimmer of the Week Julia Ullmann.
The Wildcat’s best counter to ASU will be their diving performance. Arizona diver Gage DuBois is a four-time Big 12 Diver of the Week. As the most awarded male diver in the conference, he certainly gives ASU something to worry about.
ASU’s Lane Stallworth is a two-time Big 12 Diver of the Week. His brother, Jackson Stallworth, is also a swimmer on the team.
