The goal of the race is not to win, it is to survive. King of The Hammers is the hardest single day off-road race in the world, a race over 130 miles long including wide open desert straights and intense back breaking rock crawling. Only 27 of the 97 heavily modified cars that started the Race of Kings were able to cross the finish line. Over 100,000 spectators pack the empty lake bed just outside of Johnson Valley, California, many in their own souped-up off-road vehicles. Each day after the races, fans would take their cars and test their luck against some of the hardest areas of the course including famous sections such as Chocolate Thunder and Backdoor. King of The Hammers turns an empty and desolate lake bed into one of the largest and rowdiest parties in the country that could be best described as a “Mad Max” and “Burning Man” crossover.
