A female University of Arizona swimmer dives into the pool to compete in her race against the University of Utah at Rita Hillenbrad Aquatic Center on Oct. 26. This meet against Utah marks their first home meet in the Big 12 Conference.
The University of Arizona’s women’s swimmers and divers have found themselves at the end of yet another eventful season. However, a select few are headed to Federal Way, Washington with a shot at national recognition in the NCAA Championships.
A total of eight Wildcats will be participating in the competition taking place from Wednesday, March 19 to Sunday, March 22.
On the swimmers’ side, Lexi Duchsherer, Eleni Gewalt, Riley Botton, Julia Wozniak, Maryam Sheikhalizadehkhangh and Alyssa Schwengel are the competitors for the Wildcats.
The “A” cut 200-yard freestyle relay team of Duchsherer, Botton, Wozniak and Schwengel achieved the eleventh-best time in the country at the Big 12 Championships, finishing in 1:26.92. They will compete on Thursday, March 20.
Duchsherer and Gewalt will also be participating in individual events. Duchsherer will compete in the 50-yard freestyle on Thursday, March 20.
Gewalt will compete in the 100-yard breaststroke happening Friday, March 21 along with the 200-yard breaststroke happening Saturday, March 22.
On the divers’ side, Zara Ayazi and Brooke Earley will lead the charge after qualifying last week in the NCAA Diving Zones.
Both will compete in the women’s 1-meter dive on Thursday, March 20. Earley will participate in the 3-meter dive happening Friday, March 21 while Ayazi will handle the platform diving competition on Saturday, March 22.
