Tucson is tuning up for one of its most iconic musical traditions. The Tucson International Mariachi Conference is back and this year’s “Espectacular Concert” is set to live up to its name.
Happening on April 25 at the Tucson Convention Center, the event will spotlight a dynamic lineup of mariachi bands and folklórico dance groups from across the Southwest and Mexico. This year’s concert features the internationally acclaimed Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlán, along with standout student performers selected from the student showcase taking place the day before.
Founded in 1982, TIMC has grown into one of the most respected mariachi conferences in the country. For over four decades, it has helped expand mariachi and ballet folklórico instruction in schools, fostering pride, discipline and cultural identity among young performers.
The celebration extends well beyond the main stage. The conference kicks off on April 23 with El Mariachi Canta, a national vocal competition for singers ages 8 and up. On April 24, student groups will compete in a showcase for the chance to perform on the main stage. The festivities wrap up on April 26 with the vibrant Fiesta Garibaldi, an outdoor festival featuring live music, folklórico dance, food vendors and booths showcasing local artisans.
Beyond the performances, TIMC carries a meaningful mission. The event supports La Frontera Arizona, a nonprofit organization that provides services to children and families through programs like La Paloma Family Foster Care and the Melba Chavez Child and Family Center. By attending, audiences are directly contributing to these efforts.
Conference wristbands offer free admission to events like El Mariachi Canta and Fiesta Garibaldi, along with discounted tickets to the “Espectacular Concert.” Tickets are available through the TCC, Ticketmaster, Eventbrite and can also be purchased at the event entrance.
