Several singles from singer, songwriter and pianist Rachael Yamagata's 2004 album "Happenstance" were featured on TV shows such as "Nip/Tuck" and "The O.C.," and movies such as "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" and "In Her Shoes."
Four years later, Yamagata released a two-disc album, Elephants…Teeth Sinking Into Heart. Elephants is full of somber songs that show a more indie side of Yamagata. Her simple and beautiful piano melodies add to her low and sultry voice, leaving listeners in a tranquil daze.
The second disc, Teeth Sinking Into Heart, features only five songs but manages to give a completely different feel than the first disc. More upbeat, but still perfectly complemented by her husky voice, these songs are more like the ones on her first album, Happenstance. Although they are polar opposites, neither disc is better than the other. They both skillfully serve their purpose in their own way, giving the listener an idea of the diverse talent Rachael Yamagata possesses.
